Cam Gallagher is a Nashville based saxophonist, educator, bandleader, and music professional known for his versatility across funk, soul, jazz, and commercial music. An active performer and dedicated teacher, Cam works with students of all ages and abilities and offers both in person and virtual instruction tailored to each individual’s goals.
As an educator, Cam emphasizes a holistic approach to music that connects technique, sound, theory, and expression so students develop confidence, creativity, and a deep understanding of the instrument. His teaching integrates saxophone fundamentals, improvisation, transcription, ear training, rhythm, repertoire, and stylistic fluency while ensuring music remains engaging, joyful, and sustainable. Cam also mentors students in arranging, composing, performance preparation, and career development, drawing from real world professional experience.
Cam earned his Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Utah, where he studied under acclaimed educators Kris Johnson and David Halliday. He later completed his Master’s degree in Commercial Music with a specialization in Saxophone Performance at Belmont University in Nashville. During his studies, he apprenticed with Grammy winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin and studied with leading artists and educators including Chase Baird, Dr. Jeff Kirk, and Dr. Alex Graham.
As a performer, Cam is a touring musician and the bandleader of Cam Gallagher and The Tasty Soul, one of Nashville’s emerging funk collectives. The group is recognized for its high energy live shows, blending influences from James Brown, The RH Factor, and Lettuce with original music that emphasizes groove, community, and connection. Cam has shared the stage with Grammy winning artists and performed at notable festivals and venues across the country. He also arranges and composes music for other artists and regularly works as a session musician.
Beyond performing and teaching, Cam is deeply involved in the music business with experience as a bandleader, producer, arranger, composer, and booking agent. He brings this entrepreneurial knowledge into both his performances and his teaching, helping musicians understand the practical realities of building a sustainable career in today’s music industry.
